President Obama is going after the food industry – and apparently chose to have oh-so-deadly Cheerios targeted first.  (Obama suddenly has the right to tell the FDA what to attack.  Anyone else see a problem with this?)

In a letter to General Mills, the FDA said:

“Based on claims made on your product’s label, we have determined (Cheerios) is promoted for conditions that cause it to be a drug because the product is intended for use in the prevention, mitigation and treatment of disease.”

People are praising Obama and the FDA for this move.  Why?  The move does not even make sense.

Lots of foods help in the prevention (and mitigation and treatment) of diseases.  If those who grow/make the products that are helpful in this aspect, they are rather stupid not to use the claim of the products benefits in their advertising.

So should blueberries be regulated by the FDA?  After all, they help protect the body from diseases brought about by aging, as well as boost memory.  Or what about chocolate, which can prevent heart disease?
